The History of the Doberman Pinscher

As mentioned above, the Doberman Pinscher was originally bred to help protect a tax collector. The history is fascinating. It’s so crazy, we couldn’t leave without mentioning this.

Strong, regal and highly intelligent, Dobermans can trace their roots back to the 19th century when German tax collector Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann created a dog breed designed to protect him during his collections.

He used a mix of many different breeds, including the Great Dane, the Greyhound, the German Shorthaired Pointer, the Rottweiler and others.

Today the Doberman is consistently in the top 20 most popular dog breeds, according to the American Kennel Club (AKC), and for good reason.

They’re considered a fearless, loyal and loving companion. But we think you already know that!
